Week One

First week of FMP

My theme is Destruction is the action or process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.’ I will be looking in the different sides of destruction they can be either personal or something that happens by a force. For this project I will use a broad range of research which will be enabled by the university Library, the internet and gallery/ museum visits, which may allow me to conduct images, film and text. For the final outcome I am not set on what I will create but from the research I gather and the development stages it will lead me to a final outcome for the project. I want to see how I can create something that can be translated into womenswear, my specialism but still commercial. For the outcome I have not decided what it will be but I envision that it will be a garment. I will be using Adobe Photoshop for development but I will need to learn how to use the software Illustrator to for final designs. As a proposal I am aware that this project will change and adapt.

This week I spent most of my time preparing for my assessment but I managed to do some basic research on the theme; planned to visit museums/ galleries and looked at secondary visual references. I failed with research as I didn’t find what I wanted, I felt that I was lost and there was nothing out there that could help me to develop on further with my idea. So I decided to do a quick mini mind map that allowed me to establish more things that were not so obvious to my first initial thoughts. On my way to my university, I discovered a building that had been destroyed, burnt down and windows had been boarded, it reminded me of destruction. It allowed my creativity to begin flowing and come up with more ideas on how I can go on further with the theme. I thought the pub was astonishing as it contrasted from what was around it, modern with old. Many companies advertise on billboards and the layers of posters sometime get demolished either man-made or by the weather. Due to this it revealed layers of all types of posters. I retrieved some photos of billboards but there was one board that I really liked how it was destroyed but I left to take pictures the next day but it turned out they covered it and I missed my chance. I now regret it but it helped me realise that next time to not leave it and do it when I have the opportunity. After that I thought why not create my own destructed billboard with magazines and it think it worked well as an experiment but nothing else was going further, I just felt lost.
