I decided to explore promotion further by creating a fashion film and I learnt the different film terminologies as well as the different stages on how to create a film. Beginning with planning, scripting, storyboards then looking at cameras, sound (recordings) and then editing softwares like; Adobe Premiere Pro. Using 'Setup and Payoff' to create a concept which first of all was confusing to understand until it was expanded and explained with this quote "The quickest way to a man's heart is through his chest." - Roseanne Barr. The 'Setup' is the advice Barr is stating but the 'Payoff' is that its a joke. This term will help me further on in the future when promoting work on how I want to portray it to the audience through videos/films, photographs, etc.
I then went of planning a concept by researching other products that are already out there. There were so many good fashion films like; 'ZARA Mood Advertising Commercial' and 'Gucci presents: Modern Mod' which had an awesome beat that allowed the beat be quick and fast paced, making it entertaining which i liked and wanted to portray. It was challenging to keep to one idea and being over ambitious, as with the short period of time that we had to create a 1 minute fashion film you are not able to do a lot. The time limit of the film I thought it would be difficult to stick to the minute as normally fashion films are atleast 3 minutes or less. As i decided to work independently, this mean that i had to do everything on my own making it much more difficult however i like a challenge, so I was right in my element. When researching to find some inspiration I spent a little too much time, which was not good timing skills and I should of created a schedule before I began so that everything is spread out equally and meet the deadline of the final product.
I had an idea but it was messy and jumbled, so I had to sit down and make my idea clear and have the shots all planned out so that when i film it, its understandable for me, my model and my second camera man. One thing I had to resolve when filming is that my second camera man that was helping me out with extra shots bailed on me, so I had to work around it but changing some camera shots and angles. However this led to me creating extra shots that were much better and entertaining, but allowed the Model to be more loose and care free during the shoot.
On Wednesday, I was taught the basis of the editing software I was going to use, it was not a straight forward application like others as it contained so many features. Its such an advance software that it took a while getting used to, so that I was able to create a final product. I wanted to include more advance features like; reverse slow motion, which i thought would be difficult but it was straight forward. I tried the technique and some students viewed that edit and really enjoyed it as it was very entertaining and they looked so drawn in which is very good for promoting a product. When filming my fashion film, I included extra clips and these caused problems as I had so many that I didn't know where to put them so I decided to make a decision and go one route, thats goes with the logo. As well as I managed after a few try to get the edited clips to beat of the music as I wanted this fast pace and exciting film to represent the product.
This Fashion Film will help me in the future when promoting any garments or products that I create or have been created by someone else. Overall the work was successful even though there were some bumps along the way and successful as it broaden my knowledge and my level of skills in promotion and film as well as using Adobe Premiere Pro.
(The Fashion Film will be shortly on YouTube.)
